Optical shop software in Delhi

Delhi optical retail is a market business. Shops cluster, customers compare, and a discount is negotiated at the counter rather than printed on a tag. Software that assumes a fixed price and a fixed margin does not survive a week here. What a Delhi shop needs is a bill that takes the discount you actually gave — on one line or on the whole invoice — computes GST on what is left, and still tells you at the end of the month whether that frame made money.

LensVerge is billing, inventory, prescriptions, lab jobs and WhatsApp bookings for Indian optical shops — the OS for optical retail. It runs in a browser, so there is nothing to install and no per-machine licence, and it is the same product whether your shop is in Delhi or anywhere else in the country. What follows is what actually matters for a shop here.

What a Delhi optical shop needs from its software

Because so much of Delhi buying is comparison buying, the customer who walks out is often the customer who walks back in three days later. Their prescription, the frame they liked and the price you quoted need to be findable by mobile number in a couple of seconds. LensVerge keeps prescriptions, past frames, past bills and pending repairs on one customer screen, and one mobile number can hold several family members — a father and son on the same phone stay separate records with separate histories rather than overwriting each other.

Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Rajouri Garden and the blocks around Connaught Place all run on the same rhythm: heavy weekend footfall, thin weekday mornings, and staff who move between shops. That last part is the reason to give every person on the counter their own login instead of sharing one. A cashier can bill and cannot open reports; an optometrist can write prescriptions and cannot see your margins; and when someone leaves, you remove one seat rather than changing a password everyone knows.

Areas like Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Rajouri Garden and Connaught Place are where most of that trade happens. LensVerge does not care which one you are in — but the way you bill, the printer on your counter and the promise you make about delivery all do, and those are settings, not rewrites.

GST for a Delhi shop: Delhi is state code 07

Delhi is its own GST jurisdiction with state code 07, and that catches people out constantly: a customer in Gurugram is Haryana (06) and one in Noida or Ghaziabad is Uttar Pradesh (09), so a B2B invoice to either is INTER-state and must print IGST — even though they are a twenty-minute drive away. A Rajasthan (08) buyer is the same story. It is the state on the invoice that decides, not the distance — mark the bill inter-state and LensVerge prints IGST.

You set your GSTIN and state once during setup. A counter sale then bills CGST + SGST at half the rate each; when the supply is inter-state — a buyer in Haryana (06), Uttar Pradesh (09), Rajasthan (08), or goods you ship out of Delhi — one tick on the bill switches it to IGST at the full rate, and the place of supply and the buyer's GSTIN print where they are required. Tax is always computed on the amount AFTER discount, which is the single most common hand-billing error.

If your shop is not GST-registered, or you are under the composition scheme, say so in Settings and the whole system changes with you: the document is titled “Bill of Supply” instead of “GST Tax Invoice”, there are no tax rows and no HSN column, the totals say “Net Amount” rather than “Taxable Amount”, and the GST reports disappear from the menu entirely. A composition dealer's own GSTIN and the prescribed declaration still print; an unregistered shop's do not. You are never shown a tax artefact that does not apply to you.

The discount is negotiated, so the tax has to follow it

A Delhi sale is agreed across the counter, and the figure the customer hears is the figure they expect to pay. That makes the order of operations on the bill the whole game: the discount comes off first, GST is charged on what is left, and the grand total lands where you said it would.

On a ₹3,500 frame with ₹500 knocked off, the taxable value is ₹3,000 and 12% of that is ₹360 — ₹180 CGST and ₹180 SGST — for ₹3,360 all in. Taxing ₹3,500 first and subtracting ₹500 afterwards gives ₹3,420: ₹60 of tax nobody owed, charged to the customer who negotiated hardest. LensVerge takes the discount on a single line or on the whole bill, spreads a bill-level discount across the lines before tax, and refuses a discount larger than the amount it is discounting. The counter, the lab and the pickup

Delhi shops usually have a fitting lab within a short auto ride, so turnaround can be same-day for a single-vision job and two or three days for progressives coming from a bigger lab. Track both on the same board — the job card carries the prescription, the frame, the lens and the promised date, so anyone at the counter can answer "kal tak ho jayega?" without calling the lab.

Tick the job-order box while you are billing and the job appears on the orders board with the prescription, the frame, the lens, the lab name and an expected date. It moves through seven stages from received to delivered, and repairs get their own board beside it with the issue type, warranty status and charge. Nothing needs to be re-typed anywhere — the job card is built from the bill you already raised.

Printing: thermal roll or A4 tax invoice

A thermal receipt is enough for most counter sales, but Delhi shops raise more B2B invoices than most — corporate spectacle orders, bulk sunglass sales — and those need an A4 tax invoice with the buyer's GSTIN and place of supply on it. LensVerge prints both from the same bill.

Four formats come out of the same bill — 80 mm thermal, 58 mm thermal, A4 and A5 — and your default is a setting, so during a rush nobody is choosing from a dropdown. The PDF can be sent to the customer on WhatsApp or email instead of printed at all. More on the billing side →

It keeps billing when the power goes

A power cut or a dead internet connection is not a reason to stop selling, and it is the one thing that makes shopkeepers distrust cloud software. LensVerge bills offline: the app keeps working in the browser, the invoice is created and printed, stock is adjusted, and everything queues locally. When the connection returns it syncs on its own — no export, no re-typing, no duplicate bills, because each offline invoice carries its own id and can only ever land once.

That is also why it is a web app rather than an install on one machine. Your data is not sitting on a counter PC that can be stolen, dropped or wiped, and if that PC does die you carry on from a phone. On Growth and Pro your shop is backed up daily and you can download a backup yourself.

WhatsApp bookings, and timings that stay on IST

Most Delhi shops keep a weekly closing day and trade hard on the weekend. Set your opening hours, weekly off and holidays once and the booking bot will never offer a slot on a day you are shut. Every time it shows a customer is IST, so a 7 pm slot is 7 pm on your clock.

Customers book eye tests by messaging your code on WhatsApp — the bot asks their name, offers the next open days from your actual hours, then a morning/afternoon/evening choice and a real free slot — or from your own booking page at lensverge.com/book/ with your code. Either way the booking lands on your appointments board and creates the customer record. Nothing to install for them, no charge per booking for you. How the booking bot works →

Dates and times are computed in IST throughout — appointment slots, reminders, recall due dates and the day's sales figures. It sounds like a detail until a late-evening bill lands on the wrong day's report, which is exactly what happens when software keeps time in UTC.

Getting the same customer back

Most optical revenue is repeat revenue, and most of it is lost quietly — the customer who tested with you last year and tested elsewhere this year. LensVerge builds a recall worklist from the date on each prescription, so you get a list of who is due rather than a reminder to think about it. Birthday and festival nudges work the same way, and every message is logged so the same person is not messaged twice.

Prescriptions are validated as they are typed — SPH, CYL and AXIS ranges, AXIS required whenever CYL is non-zero, a warning when the two eyes differ sharply — and can be printed, saved as a PDF or sent to the customer on WhatsApp with your review QR on the sheet.

What it costs

Starter is ₹499 a month (₹399 on annual) and covers 100 invoices a month with unused ones carried forward, and WhatsApp bookings are included. Growth is ₹1,999 (₹1,599 annual) for unlimited invoicing plus loyalty points, the flyer and review-QR kit and downloadable backups. Pro is ₹3,999 (₹3,199 annual) and adds multi-branch, which is what a Delhi shop with a second location needs. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial and no card.

See the full pricing or start your free trial — setup takes about ten minutes, and you can add your frames as you sell them rather than counting the whole wall on day one.

Frequently asked questions

Does LensVerge work in Delhi?

Yes. LensVerge is a web app used by optical shops anywhere in India — there is no city-specific version and nothing to install. Set your shop's Delhi address and GSTIN once in Settings and every invoice prints with state code 07, so a customer with a Delhi billing address is billed CGST + SGST, and an inter-state sale is billed IGST — tick "Inter-state sale" on the bill and the split, the labels and the GSTR-1 line all follow it. The states a Delhi shop most often bills into — Haryana (06), Uttar Pradesh (09), Rajasthan (08) — are the IGST cases to watch for.

Is LensVerge available in Hindi?

Not yet — the app interface is English today, and the WhatsApp booking bot replies in English. That is a deliberate decision rather than an oversight: a half-translated billing screen is worse than an English one. In practice a Delhi counter runs on Hindi and Punjabi with the customer and English on the screen, which is how most shop software here already works. Everything a customer receives — the invoice, the booking confirmation, the ready-for-pickup message — carries your shop's name, your address and your numbers, and you can type the customer's name in whatever script you like.

Do I need a computer, or will a phone do?

A phone or tablet is enough to start. LensVerge runs in a browser, so any reasonably recent Android phone, iPad or laptop works, and there is nothing to install or license per machine. Most Delhi shops end up with a laptop or desktop at the billing counter because typing a prescription is faster on a keyboard, plus a phone in the optometrist's hand for looking up a customer's history. If you want to print bills you will need a printer — a thermal roll printer for counter receipts, or any A4 printer for full tax invoices.

How do I move over from the software I use now?

Export what you have — customers, prescriptions, product list — from your current system in Excel or CSV and send the files to us on WhatsApp: we will look at them with you during the trial and load what we can. If your old system will not export, you can start with a clean list and let it fill itself: every bill, booking and repair you raise creates the customer record. Shops that switch mid-year usually keep the old software readable for their filed returns and raise all new invoices in LensVerge from the first of a month, which keeps the invoice numbering clean.
